Kevin Stark, Ph.D.

Kevin D. Stark, PhD, earned his PhD in School Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, with a minor in Clinical Psychology. In 1985, he joined the University of Texas at Austin, where he served as Director of the Doctoral Program in School Psychology and helped found the Texas Child Study Center (TCSC). As Director of Psychology at TCSC, Dr. Stark established and led psychology services within Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Dr. Stark published extensively in scholarly journals and books and authored treatment manuals. His research has been funded by local and national agencies and his honors include the APA Division 16 Lightner Witmer Young Scholar Award, designation as a Beck Institute Scholar, and founding roles in mental health Institutes. His CBT program for youth depression—ACTION—has been translated into multiple languages and is widely recognized as an empirically supported treatment for childhood and adolescent depression.

Dr. Stark is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas at Austin and Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He continues to train mental health professionals, provide pro bono mental health services in local schools, and maintain a private practice. He lives in Galveston, Texas, is an active runner and weightlifter, and trains in boxing and martial arts. He enjoys gardening and cherishes time with family and friends. His greatest joys include his wife Denise; children Adam, Colton, and Lindsey; their spouses Christine, Kali, and Michael; and grandchildren Chloe, Hunter, Coraline, and Cayden.
